Stargazing at the University - an Allegory

This is my first ever complete standalone digital painting.
Its been a humbling learning experience. Such is art.

It was painted 100% in Photoshop, from initial sketches to final product. It is 2 ft wide, and will be available for print shortly.

My original dream was to create an ode to environmental concept illustration - to everything I loved about this realm of artistic exploration.

Specifically, I wanted to create strange, sweeping and beguiling spaces, that allured and... disoriented... the viewer

The final result is an allegory, reflecting on the insights of religion and science, the conflict and the coincidences, and the mutual pursuit of truth, wonder and the mysterious.

I created this work - not for everyone - but for the few who would love it.

(May 3, 2009 - This project is now finished. Moving on!)

You definitely achieved the goals you had with this piece! The sweeping, organic lines of it definitely intrigue the viewer and pull them into the composition. I like the way you deliberately distorted the perspective, this does make it feel very 'dream-like'. I love all the decorative touches and details you added. Your figures and couch area are handled wonderfully and feel very 'grounded' and 'real'. My only suggestions would be to play with light and shadow a bit more where the curtains, stained glass, and especially the conch shell lamp (it feels like it is floating and not anchored to the wall). I would love to see the light reacting with that beautiful stained glass and throwing colored highlights on the curtain in front of it. Overall, bravo! bravo! for your first 'totally painted' piece! Amazing work and very beautiful and unique!
