Christmas Poemwhat crystalographer can decypherthe hundred hundred histories ofa single snowflakeand its terrible descentfrom cloud to earth?yet a child's breath returns itto those secret atmospheresfrom which it found its birth.what astronomer can fathomthe convexities and concavitiesof star-hung structuresspread deep and far and ancient asan angel's imagination?yet simple friendship revealssymmetries that cause the starsto glow with fascination.
Planetary PredicamentAs I look about meI see people are like planets:masses clothed in filmy atmospheres, their contours likeocean rifts, rocky ranges, and atollsshifting beneath cirrus or storms.Always we are curious, minds imagining, eyes exploring, fingers reaching outto touch, to understand, like satellites and awkward robots--Yet always the planet before us:too far, those clouds a touch too thick.Always there remainsfears of acids and sulphur, our probes sure to meet with rebuffsor illusions.
